Education & Fellowship between Locksmiths

At the Just Cars Auto Expo we believe in education and fellowship between locksmiths and that is why we provide numerous education opportunities.  All education classes listed below are included with the general admission ticket purchase EXCEPT the Just Cars + classes. Included classes are on a first come, first serve basis entry and are limited seating. Due to fire code restrictions classes will be held to the restricted amount of seats and will NOT allow for standing or crowding in the back of the room.

The Just Cars Auto Expo show floor will be open April 24 & 25 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and educational classes are scheduled April 23rd thru 26th at different times throughout those days.

American Key Supply

American Key Supply will be conducting a class dedicated solely to explaining and teaching concept of remote and transponder chip generation in Cloneen. Utilizing tools such as the VVDI keytool Max and key DIY, Steven Hoffman (CAL Pop a lock of northern Colorado) will navigate the topics of smart key, wired and wireless remote generation. Transponder chip study will encompass chip identification, generation, editing, and cloning. He will also be exploring the capabilities in limitations of various blanks, universal and cloning chips that are currently commercially available.


Tips, tricks and techniques to get the most from your AR system.

The AR programming package provides a number of options and capabilities for the automotive locksmith. Given this, there are many features and capabilities which go unused simply because the operator is unaware that they exist or is uncertain of how they are used. The purpose of the BOOT CAMP class is described and explain how to use these features.

As automotive locksmithing becomes more complex, we are starting to see that more and more vehicle systems are being incorporated into the security systems of today’s vehicles. In this class, Chad Schnitz, ASE Master Certified Technician, will cover the information you need to know about using automotive diagnostics in locksmithing. This class will also cover the features and functions of the Autel line of diagnostic tools with step by step guidelines and buttonology.

Basic Electronics

The Basics and Troubleshooting. We will cover basic automotive electronics for the 1st hour then follow up the 2nd hour with examples of how modules are wired and integrated into the electric system, basic electronic troubleshooting i.e. no power to the cluster, no power to the ignition antenna ring, etc. We will also discuss which basic tools are best for electronic troubleshooting along with some hands-on testing.

Basic Ignition Teardown

Decoding Keys like a Ninja

So, you think you are pretty good at decoding keys?

This class will allow you to test yourself against people from all over the world – or at least from New Zealand.

We will look at ten classic examples of “difficult” keys to decode, then you’ll see what to look for to make these difficult keys easy to decode by eye.

This class has practical applications for anyone professing to be a locksmith, and for anyone wanting bragging rights within their business. Challenge keys will be posted ahead of the show on the Key Pro website, but if you want to know if you got it right, you’ll have to come to the class! Ultimate winner will win a prize which mav or mav not include Marmite.

Domestic Automotive Basics

Techniques Shortcuts and Hints Pre-2000’s

This will be a class focusing on mechanical key making techniques from early domestic vehicles up to 2000’s. We will demonstrate techniques for picking GM glove boxes and progressing a working key, to decoding GM 6-cut side bar locks. We will also work with Ford 10-cut locks as well as some Chrysler vehicles. It will be a lecture and hands on learning class.

Please bring regular lock picks and small hand tools if able.

Introduction to High Security Automotive

These multi-faceted classes will familiarize the novice or more experienced locksmith with the fundamentals of sidewinder locks and keys. There will be three sections during the day

beginning with Sidewinder Basics, which includes principles of operation, character of key types, and key machine operation; Sidewinder Key Cutting, which focuses on how to code original keys, and special procedures for specific keys;  Sidewinder Service, which focuses on methods for key origination, and touches on select repairs, and service techniques as time may permit.

International Key Supply

Basic Transponder Understanding and Manipulation Course Description

In this class students will learn the differences in the three basic types of transponders used in Automotive Locksmithing and how these transponders communicate to and with the vehicles. The students will also learn how to transform unformatted transponders into a properly formatted transpond that can be programmed to a vehicle. Basic to intermediate transponder cloning will be taught and demonstrated. The concept of unlocking transponders and reusing them will be touched on, but not taught in depth. Tools used in this class will include Miraclone, VVDI Key Tool, VVDI Mini Key Tool, VVD12, Tango, and AVDI. A Q&A Session will follow the class if time allows.

Honda High Security plus

Learn about the new 2019+ Ignition systems from Rescue Ron sponsored by Lock Picks.   Student will learn about Honda High Security Ignitions; they will have hands on experience on how to teardown an ignition lock and how to rebuild it. Instead of purchasing one from the dealers, which would save them money.  Students will also learn how to spot good keys and bad keys, as well as how to up sale keys. Students will learn how to utilize the Honda Ignition Servicing Kit.

Midwest Keyless

Midwest Keyless will host a hands-on, Original Lishi Tools lock-picking course taught by factory certified experts in a small, quiet classroom setting. With the variety of Lishi Tools available, this course will provide an in-depth overview of the different types of tools offered, including the new residential tools. Students will have hands-on exercises that will allow them to pick and decode locks utilizing the 2-in-1 Original Lishi Tools. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to use the tools correctly and efficiently in preparation of cutting a key.

The Diagnostic Box

We will cover:

Class will cover basic testing of a vehicles transponder, remote and/or Prox system. Simple tests that will save the Automotive Locksmith Technician TIME and MONEY.

It will show his customers that he is adequately equipped to do the basic functions of diagnosing these features.

We will show the WONDER WIN MODULE and how the Automotive Locksmith Technician can service these modules without the use of the DEALER COMPUTER and SUBSCRIPTION.
